Suggested Timeline for LSAT?

I've been flirtin with the idea of law school. Everything else aside, I need some tips for studynig for the LSAT.

I don't plan on taking the LSAT until maybe October of next year. (I am going to be applying for the fall 2011 semester) So this gives me about 17 months to study for the test. Any tips? Should I wait a little while to study? What courses should I take?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.
