Whats the best LSAT Prep Course?

What's the best lsat prep course (between Kaplan, Princeton Review, or Testmasters) and why? or how do I determine whats the best test prep course?

You will probably hear from a lot of Kaplan and PR advocates since they have been around the longest. Personally, I am a PowerScore fan. I took their LSAT class and now teach there. But whatever you choose, look for the following:

1. Teachers with high scores (99th percentile) on the actual LSAT. Careful with the actual part--some companies let people come into their centers to take "qualifying" tests. Ask each company who will teach your class, their background, and their real LSAT score.

2. The course uses real LSAT questions. These questions appeared previously, and the type of questions that have appeared before will appear again. There are now over 5500 real LSAT questions available, so any good course will use real LSATs. Make sure to find out how many real questions you will get with your course.

3. A proven methodology. Ask each company how their methodology differs from the others, and if they have any books you can peruse that show how they attack the LSAT. If someone won't show you their methods, be wary.

4. Serious course hours. The most comprehensive courses at each company should include a lot of hours and practice tests. If you have a great instructor using real questions and proven techniques, you will benefit. Ask how many course hours you get, and how many practice tests are scheduled.

5. Outside class support. You should have access to some type of answer service, so ask how you get your questions answered when you are not in class. Look for answers where you can speak directly to an instructor, not just send a message.

6. Online Support. Ask what is in the company's online student area. Are there course supplements? How many? Are there additional teaching modules? How many and what do they cover? What else are they giving you besides the live classes?

7. History. How long has the company been around? Did they just start up this year or last? Or have they been around for 10 or more years? Be careful with new companies because they have no track record, and anyone can hang out a shingle. If a company has been around for a reasonable number of years, then they have a record of success, and have proven they are good enough to survive.

First and foremost, find out about the instructor--the person teaching will make or break your class.

Job market shows improvement
Although 40 percent of law students claimed the recession significantly impacted their career decision, 52 percent of the 330 pre-law students that participated in a Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions survey reported they were “very confident” they would pass the bar, find a job in the legal field after graduation and that only 16 percent of their fellow students would show the same results.
