Any child phsychologists out there? gifted 5 year old?

My 5 yr old daughter was reading simple books (without help) at 3 yrs old and now reads my 2nd grade daughter's books. She is doing simple math, etc. She is only in Pre-K and will be in Kindergarten next year (she missed the age cut-off by 10 days). She is very bored with school and I'm afraid will lose interest very quickly in kindergarten. I can find nothing on the internet regarding children this age. The Pre-K teachers have her sit away from the other kids and do K-1st grade work, which she finishes in a few minutes.

We live in Florida and the school says they will probably move her up one or two grades, but not until she completes a full year of kindergarten (state law, but I think they just want her in the lower grade to boost their FCAT scores).

I can't afford private school at this time. I'm a Real Estate Appraiser and work is very slow right now.

Any thoughts?

Do you have schools for the gifted in your area? Sometimes they are called talent development or accelerated. These may or may not be available to K's.

I'd also help her check out short chapter books and non-fiction books according to her interests. Her teacher should allow her to read them after she finishes her work.

Projects (a couple of days) work very well. Something hands-on building and exploring items would be ideal. You probably should look through teacher education stores and/or online catalogs for ideas. Encouraging her to create, imagine, and extend ideas are things that should not be overlooked.

Edit - Ask if they will send her to a first grade class for reading and math next year. They should at least provide that for her! Then she would be even better off skipping first grade.
