What is normal? Should this term be used so lighlty when referring about a person?
How does a psycologist or psychiatrist get to decide on what a normal person should be like. Are they normal themselves or are they just text book cases as this is what they have been told they should be like?
This comes from my own personal experience of dealing with both a psychiatrist and psychologist and them both using the term "NORMAL" within their reports.
I was ordered by the family law court of Australia to have an evaluation done when my ex and I were having custody disputes over our 2 children.
Unfortunately for me, i have now lost my 2 sons to murder, the murderer being their father, whom then committed suicide,because i was accused of not being within the normal limits and suffered paranoiya when it came to protecting my children.
Should we be labeled as a person on how we think, feel and respond to certain things and who really has the right of defining us as normal or not?
Normal is in the eyes of the beholder.
As George Bernard Shaw once wrote: "Reasonable men adapt themselves to their environments. Unreasonable attempt to adapt their environments to them. Therefore, all progress rests with the unreasonable man."
As Shakespeare (in Henry V) wrote: We cannot bow ourselves to the weak list of a country's fashions, we are the makers of manners.
It is always and only the "Box People" that dream of thinking out of the box. Some of us, my child, are far enough above to see the whole -- have neither time nor patience for the instant ... we can scarcely see the box at all and have long been freed of it's confines.
