A Systematic Guide To Preparing For CLEP Exams
In order to be successful on your CLEP exam, proper preparation is required. Most individuals accomplish CLEP preparation in one of two ways: a textbook or an online CLEP prep system. There are several high quality websites available to college students wanting to prepare for a CLEP exam.
Prior to purchasing an online system or textbook, it is advisable to check with the guidance counselor at your college or university to ensure the CLEP credits will apply towards your specific degree program. The guidance counselor often has information on the best training guides available and can provide helpful tips concerning the actual CLEP exams.
To properly prepare for the CLEP exam, you should allocate a certain amount of time per day or week to study. It is best if you study in a quiet area such as a library or office to minimize distractions and maximize learning. Some of the more advanced online websites incorporate progress bars to track when you are ready for the actual CLEP exam.
If you feel confident that your knowledge level is adequate, you can go straight to the CLEP website and read the exam description and possibly attempt the practice exam for the particular subject. The score on the practice CLEP exam and familiarity with exam subject areas will determine your readiness for the actual test.
The CLEP exam is a multiple choice exam with five possible answers for each question. If you do not know the correct answer, use the method of elimination to improve your chances of selecting the correct answer. It is important to carefully read all answer choices prior to selecting one. One answer may seem correct, but another answer may be more appropriate. Always answer every question on a CLEP exam! There is not penalty for wrong answers and guessing is much better than leaving a question blank.
Prior to beginning the CLEP exam, have an idea of how much time you will be able to spend on each question and still finish the exam. Managing time during the exam is crucial to passing with a high score. If you are not sure of an answer, do not spend too much time on that question. You can always return to the question after you answer the rest of the "easier" questions.
It is recommended not to cram the night before the exam. Instead, make sure you get a good night’s rest the evening before your exam. Plenty of rest will improve your ability to analyze questions and answers as well as help you relax prior to and during the exam.
Finally, on the day of your CLEP exam, you should eat a healthy breakfast. You should arrive at the CLEP testing center approximately 15 minutes early to allow plenty of time to complete the necessary paperwork. Make sure to wear comfortable clothing and bring proper identification to the CLEP exam. After providing payment to the testing center, the proctored examination will begin.
About the Author
Once you have completed the CLEP exam, you may inform the proctor who will provide you with your test results on an official CLEP exam score sheet. You should retain your score sheet for your records. Collegeboard, the parent company of CLEP, will then send the transcript to the chosen university or college.
